Kunstforum Ingelheim – Old Town Hall
Since 1984, the former town hall of the City of Ingelheim, in the historic district of Nieder-Ingelheim, has been the venue for the exhibitions of the Internationale Tage. In a tranquil setting, just a stone’s throw from the remains of the Carolingian Imperial Palace and its excavations, the two-storey building from the late 19th century, articulated by distinctive round windows, greets visitors with the hourly chime of its bells.
Following three years of extensive refurbishment and expansion, the Old Town Hall reopened in 2018: a new entrance with a spacious foyer, an additional underground exhibition space, four galleries in the modernised historic town hall, and a visitor-friendly infrastructure provide a barrier-free tour through this exhibition venue, which has built up its own distinctive reputation through the exhibitions of the Internationale Tage since 1959.
A cosy café in the historic pavilion behind the Old Town Hall, with additional seating in the courtyard, invites exhibition visitors and guests from the adjacent hall area to linger over coffee and cake as well as small snacks.
The name is also new: “Kunstforum Ingelheim – Old Town Hall”. It is intended to signal more clearly than ever that this is a place for art. Art at the highest level.
